Doll Face-Ups!

I began doing doll face-ups this year, and am now obsessed. I have these little dolls sitting around my room everywhere. I love them! These are the pictures of my newest ones.

Throwback Thursday!

Throwback Thursday. Some of my many childhood dolls that got me obsessed with collecting. Many of my other Disney dolls didn't make it through my kid years. Headless, clothes-less, not so in-style haircuts from dull scissors...I'm sure you get the idea.

Some Sanding!

A bit of sanding on her face and upper body. I think I may have sanded off her eyelids, so...She looks more alien-like today.

All of the Pieces are Coming Along!

It started off with just this small amount of pieces lying about on my art box...Not much like the doll I was hoping for. I haven't worked on her in MONTHS!
But when I added the ball-joint to her abdomen, it started to look more like the doll I had pictured in my mind!

Then came the most difficult part -- the face. I had an awful head that I had sculpted, and I hated it. But it's funny how just a bit of work and time with the face could change my mind about the head, though.
Posing like the odd girl that she is....
 Now for the arms!

Just a Bit of Fine-Tuning//

I've sanded the body as smooth as I could get it. It still has a few dents and tiny cracks, but it's not really too bad off.

I did manage to add a bit more to her, though, despite her odd sanding. She's still not smooth, and I haven't added her bone structure yet, so..

Creating One of My Obsessions//

I've wanted a ball-jointed doll ever since I first saw them in a Haute Doll Magazine years ago, but they were WAY too expensive for me then, and they're way too expensive for me now.  So, without eight-hundred dollars to blow, I decided to make one instead.

I made her core using paper towels and masking tape, waited days before getting the guts to actually put the clay on her, then wrapped her body core in the paperclay. Most people use La Doll clay. I didn't. I just used a clay called Creative Paperclay. It got great reviews and seems to be working well so far.

So I went ahead and removed the core once it dried and taped the seams of the body together with masking tape.
